The Only One

When I was a senior in high school, I went to all the college fairs my school had. I went to a very small high school in NJ. At each fair there were probably around 50 to 75 colleges there. I didn’t really know what I wanted to study other then something in science. I went around and picked up all the brochures in biology, oceanography, mamology, and some environmental studies.  After I got home, I looked at all of them and picked my top 4 or 5.

I noticed at least 2 were in Vermont. My mom looked into both schools and scheduled for us to visit.

The first college, Green Mountain College with a degree in oceanography I believe, was ok but I wasn’t sure it was the right fit.

The second college was SVC with a degree in environmental studies.  As soon as we pulled in the driveway, I hadn’t talked to anyone at the college yet, I knew that was the place for me. It just had that magic feeling to it. We talked to administrators and took the tour and feel in love with it more.

When it was time to send applications in. SVC was the ONLY college I sent one in for. I was asked if I was crazy not to send to more schools. I would say, “No because there was something there and I was definitely getting in.” I figured if I didn’t for some reason I would go the community college for a year and transfer in.

Well one day after school the phone rang and I was told I made it in. A few days later the letter came.

If it wasn’t for SVC, I wouldn’t have the career I have now.
