Together Is The Only Way

From the moment I stepped foot on campus my junior year, I knew SVC was where I belonged. I don’t know what it was, but I just knew. It was a done deal for me and I applied as soon as I could my senior year of high school. My guidance counselor told my mom I wouldn’t get accepted, let alone graduate from a 4-year college. SVC would help me prove her wrong.

From freshman orientation at Merck Forest to graduation day, I knew my classmates. We lived together, we ate together, we cried together. We grew up together. The lessons I learned at SVC transcended the classroom.

My professors at SVC knew me. They knew my strengths and weaknesses. Dan Tange most of all. I wanted to take a Todd Bryda class the second semester of freshman year. Dan let me try it but cautioned me it might not work. He was, of course, right. He found me a class to take in place of it easily. He was hands down my favorite professor and I think of him often. I hope I’m half the teacher he was.

There were so many others who helped along the way… Janet Groom, Mark and Priscilla. Judy and Dale, Coaches Killgallon and MacKenzie, Dr. Redden, and so many more…thank you so from the bottom of my heart.

I was lucky enough while at SVC to make many incredible friends who are still a big part of my life today. The most important being my husband, Shaun. We owe so much to SVC. It brought us together. We have a beautiful daughter and a wonderful life together.

SVC is an incredible place. I know not all had the experiences I did. But for me, my four years were magic. Sure there were bad times….but the good far outweighed the bad…. We made it together. And we will always, always have each other 💚
